Charter buses are often hired by schools, sports teams and other groups for transport. The safety performance of charter buses is monitored to ensure those transporting passengers are operating safely and are properly licensed and insured.
It’s important to verify that the individual or company has all the proper credentials. Before hiring a charter bus, organizations should ensure the charter bus company or individual has a:
- Operating Authority Certificate
- National Safety Code (NSC) ‘Certificate of Safety Fitness’
- Certificate of Registration
- Vehicle Inspection Certificate (and valid inspection sticker on side of bus)
All certificates should be in the same name as the registered owner listed on the registration certificate. These credentials are kept in the bus; you can check them before you board the bus.
For more information about the licence and registration requirements of charter buses, contact SGI’s Commercial Vehicle department at 306-751-1250 or check with the Saskatchewan Motor Coach Association.
