The MRU is staffed by medical professionals and driver's licence administrative specialists who:
- assess and monitor drivers who have medical conditions that may affect their ability to drive
- work with drivers who have medical conditions to help them keep their licence as long as possible
Medical fitness assessments are based on guidelines and standards set by the Canadian Medical Association and the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators.
The MRU strives to strike a balance between an individual's transportation needs and the public's right to expect a reasonable level of road safety.

Appealing a decision made by the MRU
Some decisions made by the MRU can be appealed to the Highway Traffic Board.
The Highway Traffic Board is an independently appointed board that hears appeals across Saskatchewan. Visit the Highway Traffic Board's website for more information about the appeal process.
