Full Saskatchewan registration
Non-resident companies that have a permanent branch location in Saskatchewan may be eligible to purchase Saskatchewan plates.
Vehicles that are registered to a company and have Saskatchewan plates can only be used outside the province for a maximum of 6 months (183 days) in a calendar year.
For more information on qualifying for Saskatchewan vehicle registration please call our Customer Service Centre at 1-800-667-9868.
Non-resident dual registration
Non-resident companies that are working in more than 1 jurisdiction may be eligible for a Saskatchewan licence plate1 to be used in addition to the licence plate from their home jurisdiction. In order to be eligible for dual registration, proof of registration and insurance (bodily injury and property damage liability of not less than $200,000) must be provided from the home jurisdiction.
While dual registration1provides full registration permission to travel in Saskatchewan, it does not provide the same insurance coverage included with regular Saskatchewan plates. The dual registration option only provides No Fault bodily injury benefits coverage as a secondary provider, due to the vehicle's insurance in the registered owner's home jurisdiction.
Note: Saskatchewan's Ministry of Finance requires sales tax to be paid on the value of the vehicle at the time of registration. For information regarding sales tax requirements, please contact the SGI Customer Service Centre at 1-800-667-9868 or the Ministry of Finance at 1-800-667-6102. The vehicle may be subject to Saskatchewan inspection requirements. For further information, please contact SGI Vehicle Standards and Inspections at 306-775-6188.
Pro-rated vehicle registration
A vehicle that is pro-rated for Saskatchewan through the International Registration Plan (IRP) is considered fully registered to operate in Saskatchewan. IRP registration can be obtained through the vehicle's home jurisdiction and is a good option for vehicles that continually operate in more than 1 jurisdiction. Contact the IRP office in your home jurisdiction for more information on the process.
- Vehicles registered with Saskatchewan plates or the non-resident dual registration option may be subject to a vehicle inspection. For information regarding inspection requirements, please contact Vehicle Standards and Inspections at 306-775-6188.
