SGI named one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People
Sept. 25, 2012
SGI has been selected as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for young People by Mediacorp Canada Inc.
“With the job market and the economy thriving, more and more young people are deciding to stay in Saskatchewan to study, start a career and raise a family,” said Minister Responsible for SGI Donna Harpauer.“ It's great to see companies like SGI working to attract these young people and proving that you can have an exciting and rewarding career right here in our province.”
Mediacorp editors evaluated companies in terms of the programs they have to attract and retain younger workers, including benefits such as tuition assistance, availability of co-op or work-study programs, mentorship and training programs, bonuses paid when employees complete certain courses or professional designations, and career management programs or initiatives that can help younger workers advance faster in the organization. In addition, evaluators look at the average age of employees within the company to better understand their workforce.
SGI sponsors insurance education programs and other relevant education programs, such as Certified Management Accountant or Chartered Insurance Professional designations, in addition to offering employees a diverse array of internal professional development programs and training opportunities, including internship, apprenticeship and mentorship programs.
All employees age 30 and under are also members of SGI's President's Youth Advisory Committee (PYAC), which engages younger employees and helps foster a sense of community. The committee hosts an annual professional development convention and various community and volunteer events throughout the year.
Previously, SGI has also been recognized as one of the Top 100 Employers in Canada, one of the Top 20 Employers in Saskatchewan, one of the Top Family-Friendly Employers in Canada, one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers and one of the Top Employers for Canadians Over 40.
