Why is SGI creating this special licence plate for the Riders?
As part of the Saskatchewan community and as a longtime supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, SGI wanted to offer fans the opportunity to celebrate their favourite team.
Will this new licence plate only be available in the anniversary year of 2010?
No, they will be available on an ongoing basis.
Where can Rider fans purchase this new plate?
Customers interested in obtaining a Rider plate can do so by visiting any of SGI's motor licence issuers across the province beginning May 19.
How are the Rider plates different from regular Saskatchewan licence plates?
Rider plates will have the Roughrider logo and the phrase 'Pride Lives Here.' The initial production of the licence plate numbers will have an 'R' followed by 4 numbers.
Rider plates are only available in the large format plate - they are not available for the smaller format plates for motorcycles or snowmobiles.
Are there any restrictions to displaying a Rider plate?
Customers with a Rider plate on their vehicle cannot display other Saskatchewan plates on the front of their vehicle that have a different plate number or background design than their Rider plate, including their personalized licence plate, Veteran plate or regular series plate.
This is to allow law enforcement to properly identify a vehicle.
Are there any plate numbers not available to be purchased?
Plate numbers R0000 to R0123 have been reserved for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Are there any special eligibility requirements to buy the Rider plate?
Any individual or company eligible to display a Saskatchewan licence plate on their vehicle can purchase a Rider plate.
However, Rider plates are only available in the large format plate - they are not available for the smaller format plates for motorcycles or snowmobiles.
Can I personalize this new plate?
Yes. Rider plates can be personalized, as long as the licence plate number is 5 characters or less.
Rider personalized licence plates can't be from the normal Rider plate series. (e.g. - R with 4 numbers in any combination)
In addition, plate numbers R0000 to R0123 have been reserved for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
What is the procedure to order a personalized Rider licence plate?
To order a personalized licence plate, submit an application form, which is available from any SGI motor licence issuer, and a cheque or money order payable to SGI for the associated fee.
How long does it take to receive a Rider plate?
For regular Rider plates, it's just a matter of going to your issuer and letting them know you want the next available Rider plate. They will place the order on SGI's system and it should be in the mail within 10 days.
The process may take a little longer at first if there are a lot of orders.
How long does it take for a personalized plate?
Personalized licence plate orders take approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
What is the cost?
The cost to purchase a single regular series Rider plate to display on the rear of your vehicle is $50 + GST.
The cost for a duplicate of the same Rider plate to display on the front of your vehicle is an additional $20 + GST.
The cost for a personalized licence plate (5 characters or less) is the normal fee of $75 + GST, plus the Rider plate fee of $50 + GST, for a total of $125 + GST.
These costs are in addition to the regular registration fees and insurance premiums associated with your vehicle.
Can I replace my current personalized licence plate with a new Rider plate?
You can replace your existing personalized licence plate with a Rider personalized plate, as long as your current slogan is 5 characters or less. A $50 + GST fee applies for the Rider plate plus $20 for the plate replacement for a total of $70 + GST.
What is the process when I purchase my Rider plate?
After you purchase a Rider plate, your SGI motor licence issuer will place the order for you and collect the applicable fees.
You will receive your Rider plate by mail in about 10 days unless you have ordered personalized plates which take 6 to 8 weeks.
Can I put the plate on my vehicle after I receive it the mail?
No. Before displaying the plate on your vehicle, it will need to be activated at an issuing office.
At that time, the issuer will provide licence plate stickers and an updated certificate of registration reflecting your new Rider plate number.
What do I do if I am replacing my regular plate with a Rider plate?
If you are replacing another licence plate in your name with the Rider plate, just ask the issuer to activate your new Rider plate in place of your old plate.
Can I order a second Rider plate for the front of my car?
Yes, you can request a duplicate plate to display on the front of your vehicle. The fee is $20 + GST.
What happens if my Rider plate is lost or stolen?
If you need to replace your Rider plate because it is lost or stolen, your issuer can provide you with a regular Saskatchewan licence plate to display on your vehicle while we order a replacement Rider plate for you. A $20 fee applies.
When you receive your replacement Rider plate, you will need to visit your issuer to activate your new Rider plate and receive your licence plate stickers and replacement certificate of registration.
Can Rider fans in other provinces order a Rider plate?
We appreciate that there are Rider fans everywhere, but this is an official Saskatchewan licence plate and therefore is only available to individuals or companies who are eligible to register vehicles in Saskatchewan.
Are sample Rider licence plates available?
Customers who wish to have a sample Rider plate can purchase one for the $50 + GST Rider plate fee and not activate the plate.
Rider plates are official Saskatchewan licence plates so you must be eligible to register a vehicle in Saskatchewan to purchase a sample plate.
Do I need to notify anyone when I change my plate?
If you have an auto extension policy, it is important to notify your insurance broker when you change your licence plate number.
When you validate your Rider plate, be sure to call them to advise them of your new Rider plate number.
