SGI provides the option of personalized licence plates for all types of vehicles including motorcycles and snowmobiles.
To obtain personalized licence plates for your vehicle, you must complete an “Application For Special Order Plates” available below or from any Saskatchewan motor licence issuer. Completed forms and payment should be mailed to:

Frequently asked questions
Is my vehicle eligible for a personalized licence plate?
To obtain personalized licence plates, your motor vehicle must be currently registered and licensed. If your vehicle is not licensed SGI will allow the plates to be ordered, however, the plates will not be released from the issuer’s office until registered to a vehicle. Exceptions can be made for souvenir Veteran plates.
How much does a personalized licence plate cost?
The cost for a single personalized licence plate is $75 plus GST. If you choose to display a personalized licence plate on both the front and the back of your vehicle, the cost is $95 plus GST.
How long will it be until I receive the new plate?
Application may be made at any Motor Issuing Office and it will take approximately 6 to 8 weeks to process.
Can I cancel an order and get a refund?
The fee paid for the special order plate will not be refunded after the plate has been manufactured. A refund may be granted where a plate slogan previously approved and issued is later determined to be unacceptable and has to be recalled.
How do I receive my personalized licence plate?
After the slogan(s) are reviewed, the applicant will be advised by letter of the approved slogan. The personalized licence plates will then be manufactured and forwarded to the Motor Licence Issuer indicated on the application form. The applicant will be notified and asked to contact the Motor Licence Issuer.
Who can apply for a personalized licence plate?
Registered vehicle owners or individuals giving the personalized plates as a gift are eligible to make application for personalized licence plates.
How do I get a particular slogan?
Each slogan is reviewed in order of preference indicated on the application. The first acceptable slogan will be issued, unless the selection(s) have been issued to someone else. If the selection(s) are ruled unacceptable, the applicant will be notified by letter with their payment attached.
Are there any slogan restrictions?
SGI allows a maximum of six characters (numbers or letters) for all vehicles except motorcycles, snowmobiles or Veteran plates, which must contain no less than two characters and no more than five characters. The slogans cannot contain any punctuation, but it can include a space or a hyphen.
In addition, slogans cannot contain:
- Any combination of letters and numbers that conflict with the sequencing currently in use or planned to be used for the Saskatchewan Vehicle Registration System (i.e., ABC 123, AB 123, 123 ABC, 123 AB)
- Any sequencing of V0000 or 0000V that are reserved for regular issue of Veteran Style Plates
- Less than two, or more than six characters for all types of vehicles except motorcycles, snowmobiles or Veteran plates
- Any symbols (i.e., $ ! # ? @)
- Any combination of characters that may be considered offensive, suggestive or not in good taste
What type of slogans are not acceptable?
SGI cannot approve slogans that imply:
- Sexual connotations/slang/advertising
- Drug/alcohol connotations
- Criminal connotations
- General or derogatory slang
- Racial/ethnic slang
- Political connotations

How do I enter my slogan on the application?
Start your selection in the first box. If your selection does not fill all boxes provided, leave unused boxes blank. Selections not using all boxes will be centred and printed in uppercase on the personalized licence plates.
Can a personalized plate be a gift?
Personalized Licence Plates make great gifts. If you are ordering a Personalized Licence Plate as a gift, please ensure you indicate on the “Application For Special Order Plates” where SGI should send the gift card. The gift card can designate the slogan the gift giver has selected or it can indicate that the vehicle owner will select their own slogan.
