Vehicle Inspection Programs
Vehicle inspection programs are to ensure certain vehicles are maintained to the appropriate safety standards and to ensure the roadworthiness of specific vehicles before they can be registered in Saskatchewan.
Certain vehicles must be inspected before they can be registered in Saskatchewan and/or are subject to periodic inspection.
Saskatchewan has nearly 900 certified private vehicle repair facilities certified to complete vehicle inspections.
Annual inspections are required for buses operated within Saskatchewan, school buses, heavy trucks, trailers, semi-trailers operated commercially and taxis where municipal bylaws require these vehicles to be inspected. Buses operating extra provincially and commercially operated power units and buses must pass an inspection every six months.
Motorcycles over 474 cc are subject to a serial number inspection whenever the registered owner of the motorcycle changes. Contact an SGI Claim Service Centre to make an appointment for a motorcycle inspection.
An enforcement officer and SGI also have the authority to require a vehicle to be subject to any test or inspection. If a vehicle owner does not comply with the request of the enforcement officer, SGI is informed and will advise the vehicle owner they must comply. Failure to comply will result in either the cancellation of the registration and insurance on their vehicle or prohibit any further registration of the vehicle until there is compliance.
