Consequences of Driving While Disqualified

If you lose your driver’s licence for any reason, you cannot legally drive until your licence is reinstated.

The consequences of driving while disqualified include:

  • Vehicle Impoundment - The vehicle you’re driving could be seized and impounded for 30 days, regardless of who owns it. A second occurrence will result in a 60-day vehicle impoundment. You’re responsible for all costs associated with towing and storage of your vehicle.
  • Fine/Imprisonment – You could be fined up to $2,000, imprisoned for up to 2 years or both.
  • Licence Suspension - You’ll be disqualified from driving for an additional period of up to 5 years, depending on your driving record.
  • Claims Denied - Your insurance coverage may be invalidated in the event of a claim.
