Driver’s licence classifications
Professional Learner’s Endorsement ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’, ‘4’
A Class 2, 3, 4 or 5 licence may be endorsed to allow you to learn to operate any higher class of vehicle provided you:
- are at least 18 years of age and are not a novice driver
- have passed the appropriate knowledge tests and have filed a medical certificate pursuant to approved standards
- are accompanied by a driver who holds and has held a valid licence to that class of vehicle for 365 days within the last 3 years.

Licence classes
- Class 1 - Power units, semi-trailers and trucks
- Class 2 - Buses exceeding 24 passengers
- Class 3 - Trucks with more than 2 axles
- Class 4 - Taxis, ambulances and buses with a seating capacity of 16-24 passengers
- Class 5 - Cars, vans and 2-axle trucks
- Class 7 - Learner's licence
