SGI and Regina Transit Offer Free Bus and Paratransit Service on New Year’s Eve
The Ding in the New Year program, now in its 21st year, is sponsored by SGI and operated by Regina Transit providing free bus and paratransit service to thousands of partygoers on New Year’s Eve. This year’s service operates from 7 p.m. on Monday, December 31 to 3:15 a.m. on January 1. Buses will travel regular routes. An additional route will travel to Regina’s Old Warehouse District.
“Last year, over 3,400 people made a conscious decision to travel safely on New Year’s Eve by using transit and paratransit. We have extended the time by one hour this year to be sure and get everyone home after the bars and night clubs close,” said Mayor Pat Fiacco. “I encourage those who are thinking of drinking over the holidays, or for that matter any other time, to plan ahead and consider using transit.”
“Traffic safety is a top priority for SGI, which is why we are so proud to sponsor the Ding in the New Year program,” said SGI Acting President and CEO Earl Cameron. “We encourage everyone to always plan a safe ride home. If your New Year’s celebrations include a drink or two, please plan to Ding in the New Year with a free bus ride from Regina Transit.”
Regina Police Chief Troy Hagen added, “The Regina Police Service is committed to traffic safety. Ding in the New Year is a valuable program that provides another alternative to safely arrive home.”
Riders can plan their trip using Regina Transit’s online Trip Planner at www.regina.ca to arrange a customized trip or call the Ride Line at 777-RIDE (7433).
An information flyer containing Ding in the New Year route information and schedule times will be delivered to all homes in the December 28th edition of the Regina Sun Community News.
Ding in the New Year riders may also complete ballots on the bus to be eligible for prizes.
Ding in the New Year is sponsored by SGI, the City of Regina, Z99, JACK FM, NewsTalk 980, the Leader Post, CTV and Printwest.
