Studies show that seatbelt usage is significantly reduced in rural areas. The rural seatbelt challenge is a community-driven project designed to improve seatbelt use in Saskatchewan's rural communities.
Two roadside surveys, conducted by community volunteers and our Traffic Safety Promotion department, measure seatbelt usage rates in each community participating in the challenge. The town with the highest percentage of positive change between surveys will earn a $50,000 cash prize to be used for local safety improvements.
