Seatbelts

It is a known fact that seatbelts can decrease the chances of sustaining a serious injury in a traffic crash by as much as 50%.

Single vehicle rollovers

The majority of fatal crashes where occupants are unbuckled are single vehicle collisions, especially rollovers.

When a vehicle rolls, unbelted occupants are violently tossed around like rag dolls and are often ejected through a window. The results can range from severe lacerations to paralysis and even death.

We demonstrate how devastating a rollover can be with our rollover simulator.

Rural seatbelt usage

Seatbelt use is lower in rural areas of the province. Due to the low number of people who use their seatbelts, we have created the rural seatbelt challenge to promote seatbelt safety and increase seatbelt use in rural areas.

Seatbelt Survivors' Club

If you have survived a collision because you were wearing your seatbelt, check out our Seatbelt Survivors' Club and become a member.

Statistics

For detailed statistics on seatbelt usage and accidents in Saskatchewan, review Section 7 - Victims and Safety Restraints (pdf, 142 kb) of our Traffic Accident Information System (TAIS) report.
