Driver distraction
- In 2009 in Saskatchewan, there were 1,913 casualty collisions where driver inattention or distraction was listed as a contributing factor.
- These collisions resulted in 35 fatalities and 2,613 injuries.
- Driver inattention and distraction was attributed as a major contributing factor in 37% of casualty collisions.

Seatbelts
- Statistics show that seatbelts can decrease the chances of sustaining a serious injury in a traffic crash by as much as 50%.
- Looking at Saskatchewan traffic collisions in 2009 with collisions that resulted in serious injuries, those vehicle occupants that were unrestrained were severely or fatally injured in 33% of the cases, compared to 6% for those using restraints.
- 61 unbelted vehicle occupants were killed in 2009 in Saskatchewan, which equals 40% of vehicle occupants killed in automobile crashes.
- Seatbelts were not used by 90 of the 396 people seriously injured in 2009.
- 44 people were killed in single vehicle rollovers in 2009. 67% of them were not wearing a seatbelt.
New drivers
- Between 2007 and 2009, drivers aged 15 to 18 represented 5.9% of the licensed drivers and accounted for 8.9% of drivers involved in collisions.
- For the regular population, there are 10.2 at-fault collisions per 100 licenced drivers. This number increases to 17.6 at-fault collisions per 100 licensed drivers between 15 to 18 years of age.
Older drivers
- In 2009, drivers 65 and older represented 16.5% of the licensed drivers in Saskatchewan and they accounted for 7.6% of drivers in collisions.

Motorcycle safety
- There were 425 traffic collisions involving a motorcycle resulting in 204 injuries and 2 deaths in 2009 in Saskatchewan.
- 200 motorcyclists were injured and 2 were killed in 2009.
School buses
- More than 80,000 children ride school buses every day in Saskatchewan.
- In 2009, there were 16 casualty collisions involving school buses, resulting in 23 injuries and 3 deaths. Of the injuries, 7 were to school bus occupants and 16 were to occupants of other vehicles. The deaths were occupants of other vehicles.
Bicycles
- In 2009, 133 cyclists were injured and none were killed as a result of a traffic collision.
Child car seats
- Half of all kids in Saskatchewan aged 8 and under aren’t properly belted when they’re in a vehicle.
- In 2009, there were 132 children 8 years of age or younger injured and 2 killed while riding in a vehicle. 11 of the injuries and 1 of the fatalities were due to the child not having any type of restraint device.
In addition, 59 of the injured children were belted by a seatbelt that may have been inappropriate for the child.
