Towing more than 1 trailer
If the combined weight of your truck, trailers and load is greater than 5,000 kg, it must be indicated on the registration of the towing unit. Remember to include the weight of towing vehicle, trailers you are pulling and the contents when calculating this.
The lead trailer must have at least 2 axles or be a trailer with a 5th-wheel or gooseneck hookup.
The total length of the vehicle and trailers must not exceed 24 m (75 ft, 5 inches).
Many jurisdictions prohibit towing more than 1 trailer - check with the jurisdiction before travelling there.
Pulling trailers or vehicles behind a motorhome
You will need to increase the registered gross vehicle weight (GVW) on the motorhome. The registration fee for the motorhome depends on the registered GVW.
Failure to display the proper GVW may result in a ticket from law enforcement.
You do not require a special driver's licence to drive a motorhome. However, if the motorhome is equipped with air brakes, you will need to have an air brake endorsement added to your driver's licence. To obtain this endorsement you must pass a written and road test.
Heavy trailer - exceeding 4,600 kg
You may need a Heavy Trailer G Endorsement added to your drivers licence to pull a heavy trailer. If the combined weight of the trailer and its contents exceed 4,600 kg (10,000 lbs), it qualifies as a Class 1 unit.
You can obtain the G Endorsement on your Class 2, 3, 4, or 5 licence, which allows you to drive 2-axle trucks (excluding power units) towing trailers more than 4,600 kg. Drivers must be 18 and not be a Novice driver.
To obtain the G Endorsement on your driver's licence, you must meet the approved medical and vision standards, and pass the written and road tests.
Boat trailers
Boat trailers are not always registered as utility trailers. If the GVW of the trailer and the load is greater than 1,360 kg (3,000 lbs), the trailer body style on the registration must be indicated as a transport trailer.
