Vehicles registered in Class LV are known as light vehicles and include:
- cars
- sport utility vehicles
- light vans - including minivans, passenger vans and cargo vans that are rated 1 ton and less
- light trucks - including 1/4-ton, 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton and 1-ton units
- motorhomes and buses with a registered gross vehicle weight of 15,000 kgs or less

Light vehicles can be used for both private and commercial purposes. For example, a light vehicle can be used as a personal vehicle, in the operation of a business or for the transportation of any commodity, with the exception of passengers for hire. In other words, a light vehicle can't be used as a taxi.
Light vehicles fall under the Safe Driver Recognition program - which means if you own a light vehicle, your driving record is used to determine whether you're eligible for a discount.
