The GVW of a motorhome depends on the following:

  • motorhome model
  • vehicle year
  • options included
  • cargo carried

If your motorhome will be used to tow a trailer or another vehicle, include the weight of the units towed when you're calculating the GVW.

Loaded weights can vary significantly based on options and cargo, so be sure to weigh your motorhome fully loaded to make sure you are paying the correct registration fee.

To help determine your motorhome's GVW, check the manufacturer's information plate or decal for the vehicle's empty or tare weight (located inside the unit). Don't forget to add in your cargo and supplies. Or, select the style and length of your motorhome from the guide below and make note of the weight range:

Class A Style

Class A Motorhome
Length in feet Average weight range when loaded (in kg)
25 6,000 - 7,000
30 5,800 - 8,200
32 6,000 - 9,300
35 6,900 - 10,000
36 7,400 - 11,000
37 8,000 - 13,600
38 10,600 - 14,500
Over 39 12,165 - 14,500

Class C Style

Class C Motorhome
Length in feet Average weight range when loaded (in kg)
18 3,725 - 4,200
19 to 24 4,659 - 5,227
25 to 31 4,762 - 6,373
Over 31 Up to 9,979

Note: The above ranges are estimated averages only. Units may fall outside these ranges based on make, model, model year and options included.

Registration fees

Registration fees are based on the gross vehicle weight (GVW) you declare for your motorhome at the time of registration.

Motorhomes can be registered in Class LV or in Class PV, depending on their GVW:

  • Motorhomes with a GVW of 15,000 kg and less are registered in Class LV.
  • Motorhomes with a GVW of 15,001 kg and greater are registered in Class PV.

To determine your registration fee, find your motorhome's GVW on the appropriate guide below:
