All motorcycles that have a Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards Label of Compliance, indicating the motorcycle was manufactured for street use (MC, LSM, MVL, or LSM/MVL)1 must be registered to operate on public roadways.

Prior to registration, a motorcycle must meet the motorcycle requirements included in The Vehicle Equipment Regulations. SGI, as the administrator of these regulations, may approve the registration of all motorcycles that meet the requirements. For questions, contact Vehicle Standards and Inspection 1-800-667-8015, extension 6188.

Saskatchewan law says that your motorcycle must meet the following Saskatchewan motorcycle regulations prior to registration.

To register your motorcycle, visit a motor licence issuer near you.

New motorcycles

An inspection is not required to register a new motorcycle, but the following information is necessary:

  • The New Vehicle Information Statement (NVIS) that the dealer gave you when you bought your new motorcycle.
  • The bill of sale (pdf, 12kb).

Used motorcycles

If you are registering a used motorcycle, you must provide proof of ownership in the form of a bill of sale, lease agreement or previous registration. An inspection is not required.

Transfered from another province

A current out-of-province registration is acceptable as proof of ownership provided that the same name also appears on the Saskatchewan application for registration.

Imported motorcycles

A K22 Customs Clearance Card is required to register an imported motorcycle.

Motorcycles with no serial numbers

Most motorcycles have Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) stamped on the frame and engine casing. However, some may have been built without a number, or had the frame or casing changed.

In these cases, arrangements must be made with SGI to have a VIN placed on the motorcycle. A VIN decal must be riveted into the frame. Contact our Customer Service Centre at 775-6900 in Regina or toll free at 1-800-667-9868.

Some motorcycles are manufactured with VINs on a metal plate that's riveted to the frame. These numbers are acceptable and a new VIN doesn't need to be assigned.
