Your registration requirements will be different if you are a Saskatchewan resident as opposed to being a new resident of the province. It will also depend on what class of vehicle you drive.
Cancelling your registration
There are 4 options to cancel your vehicle registration:
- Cancel online with MySGI.
- Visit an SGI motor licence issuer.
- Send another person with your written authorization to a motor licence issuer.
- Send a signed letter requesting the cancellation by fax to 1-800-563-5003 or by mail to:

Registration transfers
You can use the licence plate from your original vehicle on a new vehicle for up to 7 days when you:
- Sell or trade in a vehicle with valid Saskatchewan plates;
- and
- Buy a new or used vehicle in Saskatchewan.
After that time, visit your motor licence issuer to fill out a transfer application.
Replacing registration certificates
If your registration certificate is lost or destroyed, you can visit any motor licence issuer to have it replaced at a cost of $10.
