Statutory suspensions

When determining the length of your suspension, previous convictions in the last 10 years are considered.

Under provincial law, your licence will be suspended if you're convicted of any of the following offences:

  • a .08 blood alcohol content (BAC)
  • impaired driving
  • failure to comply with a demand, for example refusing a breath test or Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST)
  • dangerous driving
  • leaving the scene of an accident
  • driving while disqualified
  • failing to stop for police
  • criminal negligence

When determining the length of your suspension, previous convictions in the last 10 years are considered. Suspension lengths are as follows:

Offence Length of suspension
1st offence 1 year
2nd offence 3 years
3rd and subsequent offences 5 years
