Saskatchewan residents who have been permanently denied driving privileges for medical reasons may qualify for a discount on basic automobile insurance. If you qualify, you will receive a 20% discount on basic insurance on Class LV, PV and light F vehicles.

Qualifications

You will qualify for the discount if you:

  • Don't meet Canadian Medical Association guidelines for driver licensing.
  • Have no conviction for a driving-related Criminal Code offence in the last 10 years.
  • Are at least 15 years old.

Our driver medical appraisers will determine whether you meet the first condition. Once eligibility has been determined, we will contact you by letter. As medical professionals, our appraisers understand the relationship between medical conditions and driving, and you can feel comfortable discussing your medical history with them.

Note: This discount is not intended for people with medical conditions that will improve with time and physicians are advised that this is not a billable request.

To apply

Please provide the following to our Medical Review Unit (MRU):

  • date
  • name
  • address
  • city
  • postal code
  • phone number

To enable the medical assessment, include a recent report from your physician with your application indicating why you do not meet the medical standards. If you have already provided a report to us, you can contact the MRU to determine if any further medical information is required from your physician.
