To insure your vehicle in another jurisdiction, you may be asked to provide proof of your driving history and proof of vehicles registered and insured in your name.

Saskatchewan provides this information through a driver abstract, sometimes referred to in other jurisdictions as a Letter of Experience.

Components of a driver abstract

Driver abstracts include the following information:

  • Driver record information - this is a complete record of your accidents or convictions. If you have had no accidents or convictions, your driver information area will indicate NIL.
  • Plate record information - this is a record of any vehicles registered to you.
Note: If your vehicle is registered in joint names and you need proof that the vehicle was registered and insured in Saskatchewan, you'll need to request a plate record under the joint name, in addition to the individual driver abstract.

Driver abstracts include a minimum of 5 years of driving and/or registration history. However, you can request an abstract from as far back as Jan. 1, 1995 if required.

If you've been a Saskatchewan resident for less than 5 years, your abstract will include information equal to the time you were a Saskatchewan resident.

Cost

The fee for each abstract is $10. Payment is required with each request.
