Driver records

Drivers should be aware that your driving record or medical conditions may prevent employment even if you meet all requirements.

In extreme cases, you may be denied insurance or your employer will have to pay substantial surcharges to employ you.

Before incurring the expense of medical, written and road tests as well as possibly training you should take this self-check:

  • Do you have more than 3 moving traffic violations/at-fault accidents combined in the 3 years preceding the date of hire?
  • Do you have a criminal code conviction in the 3 years preceding the date of hire?

If you answer 'Yes' to 1 or both questions we recommend that you check with your potential employer and/or insurance broker about how your record will affect your ability to gain employment.

  • Has your medical report been completed and approved by SGI?

If you answer 'No' you will be unable to start testing for a higher class of licence.

Note:If you have a criminal code conviction or certain medical conditions you may not be able to travel to the United States which will further hamper your employability.
