To help create a cleaner and healthier environment, we promote environmental responsibility among our staff and contribute to the protection of the environment in the following ways:
Salvage recycling
Our Salvage department works to minimize pollution, maximize recycling and promote environmental awareness.
SGI Salvage is a leader in automobile recycling in Canada. Our recycling programs include:
- antifreeze recycling
- oil recovery
- used tires
- freon recovery
- mercury switch-out program
- scrap steel and batteries
- vehicle parts
SGI Salvage recycles over 7 million pounds of steel, 82,000 pounds of aluminum and 100,000 parts and assemblies every year.
Green Committee
SGI's Green Committee was formed in March 2008 in an effort to increase environmental awareness within the company.
The committee's vision is to educate and engage SGI employees in positive environmental change that balances corporate sustainability with the long-term health of our customers, colleagues and planet.
The Green Committee meets periodically to discuss how SGI can become a more environmentally-friendly company. Then, they put their ideas into action. The group bought several recycling stations for corporate use, set up a head office Borrow-a-Bag station to encourage the use of reusable bags and started Green Tips, a series of eco-friendly tips posted regularly on SGI's intranet. In the works is a corporate-wide battery recycling program and No-Idle Zone signs at all SGI locations in Regina.
Corporate recycling program
To help reduce our everyday impact on the environment, we recycle the following materials:
- paper, cardboard, bottles and cans
- electronic equipment
- licence plates
- used facility materials such as metals, oils, chemicals, carpets, drywall, batteries and office supplies
We also use recycled paper products, reuse packing materials, and are moving towards a more paperless work environment.
