SGI and Regina Transit offer free bus and paratransit service on New Year's Eve
December 16, 2009
The Ding in the New Year program, sponsored by SGI and operated by Regina Transit, provides free bus and paratransit service to thousands of partygoers on New Year's Eve. This year's service operates from 7 p.m. on December 31 to 3:15 a.m. on January 1. Buses will travel regular routes. An additional route will travel to Regina's Old Warehouse District.
"I encourage party revellers to Ding in the New Year by using Regina Transit for a safe and convenient ride," said Mayor Pat Fiacco. "Regina Transit buses are a free, reliable way to get around the city this New Years Eve. Ride Regina Transit and avoid waiting for taxis, warming up a vehicle or searching for parking space."
"Reducing the number of injuries and deaths caused by impaired driving is a top priority for SGI, which is why we are proud of our long-standing partnership with the City of Regina and the Ding in the New Year program," said SGI President and CEO Andrew Cartmell. "Please enjoy your New Year's Eve celebration, and remember to always plan a safe ride home. This year, take advantage of a free bus ride from Regina Transit and SGI."
Regina Police Chief Troy Hagen added, "We strongly encourage people to plan a safe ride home. Think of the alternative: if police stop you, you'll face a ticket or possibly a criminal charge. If it's a collision that stops you, the consequences could be deadly. Having a safe holiday season starts with you."
Route information and schedule times are available online at regina.ca and an information flyer will be delivered to all homes in the December 28th edition of the Regina Sun Community News. Riders can plan their trip using Regina Transit's online Trip Planner at regina.ca to arrange a customized trip or call the Ride Line at 777-RIDE (7433).
Ding in the New Year is sponsored by SGI, the City of Regina, and long-time sponsors Z99, JACK FM, NewsTalk 980, the Leader Post, CTV and Printwest. This year, Molson Coors Canada has joined the sponsorship team.
